To mark World Habitat Day in October 2011 Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka's goodwill ambassador Otara Gunewardene, founder of popular retail store ODEL, issued a statement calling on her fellow Sri Lankan citizens to contribute their valuable Time, Labor and Resources to ensure adequate housing for all.

She also helped HFHSL to organize a two-day fundraising drive in aid of HFH Sri Lanka at her flagship store in the capital Colombo. Over the weekend the promotional and publicity booth set up at ODEL department store in Central Colombo displayed a life size photo cut out of Otara our brand ambassador with the caption "COME JOIN ME TO HELP THE NEEDY" HFH staff volunteers distributed over One Thousand brochures portraying work done by Habitat for Humanity over the past years and calling all to cooperate and contribute to build Houses and Hope for Sri Lanka's poor.
