Current Projects Overview HFHSL identified four general areas for its tsunami reconstruction programs; Trincomalee in the northeast of the island, Batticaloa on the eastern coast and Galle on the south western coast, as well as a program in the Colombo suburb of Moratuwa. Each area is under the direction of a regional manager who supervises a staff of site/construction supervisors, accountants and other personnel responsible for verifying the needs of the families applying for housing. Each area has also developed Habitat Resource Centers designed to produce house-building materials such as concrete block, window and door frames and, soon, cement roofing tiles. The purpose of these centers is to provide local partner families with training in the manufacture and use of the building components, to stockpile materials and to produce quality building components at less than retail cost, thus keeping the construction costs as low as possible while ensuring the highest possible quality of product.
