Methodist College Colombo Youth Awareness Programme PDF Print E-mail

On 12 Ferbuary 2010, Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka (HFHSL) conducted an educational programme for 75 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed GCSE Advanced Level students. HFHSL IT Manager, Christopher Schokman and Volunteer Programme Manager, Francis Fernando facilitated the program and discussed the work of HFHSL and the value of volunteerism & the HFHSL Save & Build system.Students came away from the programme with a commitment to volunteer both as groups and individually.

The programme forms part of the Youth Awareness Programme which is driven by the wise words of Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” While changing the world might seem an overly ambitious target – to educate children about the part we each have to play in ensuring decent shelter for all is what this programme hopes to achieve. To date the Youth Awareness Programmes have been conducted at Ladies College and OSC (Overseas School Colombo). As a result of these programmes Ladies College donated funds towards the Sponsor a Home programme and OSC has volunteered on a World Habitat Day, in a colour washing and painting initiative.
